AMAB Bookclub Game

The other day I flippantly responded to a comment on my Book Club Post by saying perhaps we could have a Twitter Book Club.

I kept thinking about it, wondering if you could really do justice to a book in 140 characters.  Then I remembered my Ask Me About Books website (www.askmeaboutbooks.co.uk).  The analysis on it is based on a series of categories and options which could easily form the basis of Twitter reviews - in fact I've done something along those lines myself.

Categories include:
Main Themes - i.e. Good vs Evil, Journey, Relationships, Social Commentary
Action - i.e. Heart Attack, Give Me A Breather, Taking It Easy
Style - i.e. Epic, Words Are My Passion, Oh The Irony, Smooth & Swift
Emotions - i.e. Grab The Hankies, Warm & Fuzzy, Laugh Out Loud, Hmm... Thought Provoking

The idea behind it is to give you a feel for the book without giving away the story, and to put that information in a searchable format to help people find books they will enjoy.

So, here's my idea.  Read a book - any book - and then join in the Book Club Game.  Go to www.askmeaboutbooks.co.uk and look at the categories and options.  Choose a few of those options and tweet them using #AMABBookclub and @MeandBooks, including the title and author.

Example: @MeandBooks The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald! Main Themes: Social Commentary #AMABBookclub

The Great Gatsby Analysis

You can come up with your own categories and options if you like and you can elaborate in follow up tweets if you want to.  This just provides a frame work for the game.

At the beginning of every month I will set a particular book to read if you like, and we can compare our thoughts in the same way.  I will Retweet all Tweets!

If you want to do a Post on your Blog covering all the categories (along with a review if you like) you can tweet the link in the same way and I will add your analysis to the website and put a link on the AMAB website back to your post.

If you want to be part of the AMAB Book Club add your Twitter Name in the comments below and I'll make sure you're notified of each month's book.

If you want to be part of a different kind of Book Club check out Mama Owl's #50Books2013 challenge, which encourages people to take some time for themselves to read.
